How “Not” To Train With Kettlebells: Episode 4: “Kettlebelly Dancing?”

In the never-ending quest to keep you safe from all things wrongly taught on YouTube University, here is another example of why it pays to get qualified instruction from a real certified kettlebell instructor, and not someone, such as lil’ mama in the following clip. I really don’t have to say much about this clip, as it speaks for itself. However, watch it, and then post your comments below.

Hey, look at the bright side. At least she Continue Reading »How “Not” To Train With Kettlebells: Episode 4: “Kettlebelly Dancing?”

A “Salute” To The Ultimate Bodyweight Exercise – “Performing The Human Flag” by Tim Bell

Progressing Towards The Human Flag
Guest Post by:  Timothy Bell PTS

The human flag, it’s easily one of the most impressive feats of strength, core stability, tension, and total body control ever created. The human flag involves holding onto a vertical pole and supporting your body weight completely horizontal with only your hands touching the pole. Its a technique that many dream of one day performing, yet few know how to actually train to progress towards performing the human flag. As with every physical feat of strength there is a path of progressions that will help you one day achieve the human flag!

First things first, you’ll need to be very comfortable holding abdominal and core stability exercises for long periods of time. I would suggest starting with basic front planks, side planks, and super man holds. Once you’re holding all of these for longer than a minute each, it’s time to move onto some advanced planks. Advanced planks involve removing one or more limbs, for example performing a front plank with one foot off the ground.

Next, you’ll want to build your upper body strength in both pushing and pulling, this is because Continue Reading »A “Salute” To The Ultimate Bodyweight Exercise – “Performing The Human Flag” by Tim Bell

The Top 3 Things You Can Do Right Now To Make A Difference: “Listen, Laugh, Help”

Yes, today is Mardi Gras, and I planned on posting a “Non” Fat Tuesday-style workout. However, when I work up this morning, I received a Facebook email, via my buddy Mike Mahler. Mike shared a post from another friend, and and all around great guy, comedian, John Heffron. Usually, John creates some of the funniest videos, and shares them with us on Facebook. However, this message had a differnet tone, and was a lot more personal. I will keep this simple, and quote John’s Facebook message, below:

“2 soldiers in Edwin‘s (my brother in laws) unit that have paid the ultimate sacrifice this week, Fahey and Weaver may you RIP! In addition to Continue Reading »The Top 3 Things You Can Do Right Now To Make A Difference: “Listen, Laugh, Help”

Kat Ljubicic of BadKat Bodies Stops By The New Warrior Nation

Ok, so I’ve been a little M.I.A. with my blog posts, as I was away on vacation, celebrating my 2 year anniversary, with my best friend and most “awesomist” woman in the world, my wife. Also, I have been gearing up for competing at the IKFF Kettlebell Invitationals, in Novi, Michigan, this week. However, I’m back on the grind, with the blog posts. As for being m.i.a., blame my mind, not my heart ;-)

A few weeks ago, I had to pleasure to receive a Facebook message from an awesome chica, who planned to visit the great state of Texas, during Super Bowl weekend. Her name is Kat Ljubicic, of BadKatBodies in Toronto, Canada.

There’s no question that Kat Ljubicic is one of the baddest, toughest, and strongest people I know. This rockin mama, not only kicks a- – in training, but one you get to know her, you will see how she kicks a- – in life.

Kat continues to not only inspire many, at her Continue Reading »Kat Ljubicic of BadKat Bodies Stops By The New Warrior Nation

Dedicated To The Kettlebell Sport Athlete: “Train As A Cell – Build As A Body”

I dedicate this to all Kettlebell Sport athletes. I know this is how we feel when we are training. However, at the end of the day, we are like an cell, in the human body. Each one of us, just like a cell in the body, has an individual responsibility to grow, prosper, and remain active. We don’t get a chance to clock in and out. This is a 24/7 job, whether we are training for your individual event of choice, maintaining supportive nutrition, getting adequate rest & sleep, or seeking and participating in supportive recovery, before, during, and after training sessions.

Although, we must take care of our individual roles, it is also our responsibility to communicate and build this sport & culture, with other GS athletes. Such, is no different than when one cell must actively and positively communicate with other cells, in order to help a body progress and prosper. Indeed, we are the macrocosm of the microcosm of Kettelbell Sport and Continue Reading »Dedicated To The Kettlebell Sport Athlete: “Train As A Cell – Build As A Body”

New Warrior Interrogations: w/”Combat Kettlebell Sysytems” DVD creator, Joey Alvarado

I recently received former pro-MMA fighter & top level trainer, Joey Alvarado‘s “Combat Kettlebell Systems” DVD, in the mail. Joey and I connected on Facebook, via a mutual friend, Mark de Grasse of My Mad Methods.com/My Mad Methods Magazine. Of course, as a fan of combat sports, as well as a martial arts practitioner, I was extremely curious as to see what Joey’s DVD brought to the table, in terms of strength & conditioning for combat athletes. However, I also wanted to know how the everyday Joe or Jane New Warrior, looking to get “fighter fit” but had no intentions of busting someone up professionally, would benefit from this DVD, as well.

I figured the best thing for me to do, was get the words from the sensai, himself. Thus, check out the following one-on-one interrogation between yours truly, and combat bad a**, Joey Alvarado.

NWT: What’s going on brotha? First of all, thanks for Continue Reading »New Warrior Interrogations: w/”Combat Kettlebell Sysytems” DVD creator, Joey Alvarado

Complex Kettlebell Exercise Beach Workout: Guest Post from Jon Celis for My Mad Methods

Despite all of this crazy winter weather, in February, let’s not lose site of one fact: Spring “is” around the corner. Thus, it’s only a matter of time before you will have to shed those winter layers, and get your body ready for Spring Break, pool side parties, and start eying the season’s hottest two-piece (and no, I’m not talking about a two-piece from KFC).

(Is that a hot tub by the pool, or are you just happy to see me?)

Since we are only a month away from Spring, my buddy’s over at My Mad Methods.com & Continue Reading »Complex Kettlebell Exercise Beach Workout: Guest Post from Jon Celis for My Mad Methods
