Random “Jump Off” Training For Strength & Mostly Preparing For Anytime “&^%#” Happens

Every now and then I like to do, what I’ve labeled as “Jump Off” training. Basically, at some random time of the day, I just pick up something heavy (that I know I can lift safely), and knock out some random sets.

Sometimes, I may just randomly walk out of the house and haul ass up and down some flights of stairs. Meanwhile, I will occasionally jump over the railing, crawl forward & backwards up the stairs, and even find a pipe over the doorway of the stairwell, and bust out some various push ups. Once I get it out of my system, I go back inside, drink some water, and carry on, as if nothing happened.

Why do this, without some type of warm up (as prescribed by every so-called fitness expert)? For the very reason I call this “Jump Off” training. If there is a situation in life, when you have to call on the resources you already have, in order to survive, are you really going to take 5-10 minutes to warm up? Try telling that to the mother, in the storied scenario, who lifts the car off of her pinned child.

Today’s Random Unplanned Lifting:

Kettlebell Clean & Jerk x 32 kg (70#) x AMRAP (as many reps as possible)

How do you prepare for the “Jump Off?” In today’s crazy society, “Jump Off” preparation may be more required than you think. I’m just sayin…..

Former “The Biggest Loser” Contestant Shares Unhealthy Reality Of The TV Show

Here’s an interesting news clip shared on Facebook by my friends Mike Sanders and Angie Lee, in regards to a former “The Biggest Loser” contestants allegations regarding the true reality of participating on the show. Kai Hibbard, a Season 3 TBL contestant, shares her experience from the show with CBS reporter, Erica Hill, about the dramatic means contestants go through to lose large amounts of weight during the show, the pressure contestants receive from the show’s producers to put up massive weight loss numbers each week, and how Hibbard’s drastic dieting choices affected her health, including losing her hair, due to unhealthy dieting.

Yes, some of us can state, viewers of such shows as the Biggest Loser, should know it’s “just” reality TV, and they should no the measures used on such shows is extreme. However, do not forget, most people watch such shows to escape their “own realities,” and try to live vicariously through the participants of such shows.

Also, I honestly believe, most viewers of reality TV, avid readers of gossip magazines, and those who constantly watch the news, enjoy such venues as a way to make themselves feel better knowing, that quite possibly, their lives are not the only ones that suck. In fact, the lives of the folks they read about and watch on these shows, seemed to suck even more.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t condone the majority of the methods and message given by such shows as TBL. However, it is TV, and it is a “business.” However, the biggest step we can all do to improve our lives, is to take responsibility for them. “Own” our past mistakes, and “take action” to do the opposite of all of the things that do not support a better quality of life for us.

At the end of the day, those that play the “Blame Game” always end up being “The Biggest Losers!

I would love to hear your thoughts about Kai’s experience on the show. Should Kai receive praise for sharing her experience of what goes on behind the scenes of the show? Do you feel she is simply getting another 15 seconds of fame? Do you think shows such as “The Biggest Loser” are truly an inspiration to those needing to make a healthy lifestyle change? Or, is the show, it’s producers, and trainer, irresponsible for creating a what could be perceived as an illusion to those seeking a healthy lifestyle? Please share your thoughts below.

Pt. 3 of Sincere’s “House of Pain” Visit to Houston’s Primal Iron Gym

Here’s part 3 of my visit to Houston’s Primal Iron Gym, one of the premiere underground gyms in Htown. This final installment features a hardcore 7 minute circuit of madness featuring a few of my favorite underground training implements: battling ropes, sledgehammer, tires, sandbags, a heavy “bag” named “Peggy Bundy,” and the infamous “towel dance” even makes a cameo appearance.

All 7 minutes are performed without a break, and in pyramid fashion. The fellas spent 1 minute at each station. This workout was the finisher to a 30/30 workout that the fellas completed before I arrived, and also, the previous clip I posted, from my visit. You can find that clip here: http://budurl.com/primalironpt2.

MMA pro, Carlo Prater, took the session up a notch, by performing the entire workout with a lung expander. This portion of the workout further demonstrates what a few New Warriors can accomplish together, in order to save time, get a lot of conditioning in with minimal equipment, as well as build comradery.

Here’s the workout:

1. Battling Ropes x 1 min.
2. Sandbag Toss x 1 min
3. Sledgehammer Tire Slams x 1 min
4. Box Jump on Tractor tire x 1 min
5. Sledgehammer Tire Slams x 1 min
6. Sandbag Toss x 1 min
7. Battling Ropes x 1 min

I want to thank Bart, David, and Carlo, for their great hospitality, and giving me the opportunity to show all of my folks in the New Warrior Nation, how we get down “Underground Style” here in Houston. Stay tuned for more from Primal Iron Gym and New Warrior Training. You won’t want to miss it.

Don’t forget to leave your comments below and let the fellas know what you think about their training and their gym.

Houston’s “Primal Iron” Crew Serves A Dose of 10 Min. Tire Flipping Madness

Here’s part 2 (the next day) of my visit to Houston’s Primal Gym, one of the premiere underground gyms in Htown. In this clip, the Reverend, Bart Stewart, David Brashear, and MMA Lightweight Pro, Carlo Prater demonstrate, what Bart calls: “Steel Belted Radial Therapy.”

The guys basically flip a 450 pound tractor tire, in “round robin” fashion, for 10 minutes straight, without rest (other than while you’re waiting your turn). Talk about some serious conditioning. I’ve always heard, the best things come in 3’s. The guys show how a group of 3 Warriors can have a kick ass workout.

However, you can do this same workout with 2 or more. There are “No Rules,” except practicing good form, having fun, and kicking butt.

Check it out, and be sure to catch part 3 (the final crazy workout the guys put together), soon to follow.
